The youth Red Cross is the most important constituent of its mother organization, Indian Red Cross Society. It is a group movement organized at the initial stages for struggle between 18 and 25 years of age within the colleges. A qualified lecturer is recognized as the leader and he is called as the Programme Officer. Under his guidance, the students are trained and encouraged to manage the affair of the group, electing their own office – bearers.

Our College Youth Red Cross
Our College Youth Red Cross was started during the year 1990 under the leadership of Prof. V. Parthasarathy, Associate Professor of Zoology as the Programme Officer followed by V. K. Ramakrishnan, Assistant Professor of Tamil as a Programme Officer. In their period so many programme such as AIDS awareness, Road safety, Area Clealiness and Health Programmes were conducted.

In this year, YRC volunteers have done the campus cleanliness programme and participated zonal and district camps conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University.
2006 - 07
During this year YRC volunteers participated Health service perogramme, zonal level study cum training programme conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University.
2007 - 08
In this year YRC volunteers have involved campus cleaning programme, health awareness programme and participated in the zonal level study camp conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University.
2008 - 09
During this year onwards the volunteers have given special importance and involved them in various activities such as health activities and cleanliness programmes in the college and in the near by villages. YRC volunteers participated zonal and district level study camp conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University.
2009 - 10
YRC Unit volunteers S Nithiyananthan of II B.Com, and P Balamurugan of II B.A Economics attended a One day Seminar on “Global Warming” organized by Senthamizh College, Madurai, on 27th August 2009 in observation of the 15th Anniversary of Salfornio, the 60th Year of Geneva Convention and the 89th Year of the beginning of the Indian Red Cross Society.
Four YRC volunteers accompanied by Prof P Pattinathar, Programme Oficer, participated in the One Day Seminar on the “Role of Red Cross Society in the Emerging Era of Environmental Disaster” organized by Thiagayajar College, Madurai on 18th February 2010.
Dr S Pari Parameshwaran, Zonal Coordinator, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai delivered a lecture on “Role of YRC volunteers in Society and In National Disaster” in the One Day Orientation Programme organized by the YRC unit of our college on 26th February 2010.
Four YRC volunteers of our college participated in the three days district level orientation programme held at Madurai Kamaraj University on 20th March 2010 – 22nd March 2010.
2010 - 11
Thirty Youth Red Cross Volunteers from our College participated in one District and one State Level Youth Red Cross Study Camp at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai from 20-03-2010 to 23-03-2010 and from 06-04-2010 to 09-04-2010 respectively.
Youth Red Cross of our College organized a One Day First Aid Training Camp with St. John’s Ambulance, Madurai for 50 selected YRC volunteers of our College on 23-12-2010 at our College premises.
Four Youth Red Cross Volunteers from our College Viz: Mr. S. Nithyanantha, III B.Com., Mr. Gowtham III Physics, Mr. Gowsihan, II Economics and Mr. Prasanna, II B.Com. participated in 7 Day State Level Youth Red Cross Field Training Camp at Annamalai Univeristy, Chidambaram from 26-01-2011 to 02-02-2011.
Twenty eight volunteers with one Programme Officer of our College participated in 5 Day National Level Youth Red Cross Study cum Training Camp at Madurai Kamaraj University from 24-02-2011 to 28-02-2011.
Ten YRC volunteers participated in three days zonal level YRC training cum study camp at MK University premises on 23rd March 2011 to 26th March 2011. In the same year our Programme Officer Prof. P Pattinathar was promoted as the District Organiser of Madurai and he has attended the State Level meeting for District Organisers and Zonal Coordinators conducted by the YRC State Office at Chennai.
2011 - 12
Madurai District Youth Red Cross conducted a contest on How to Use Social Networking Sites for Social Activities at our college premises. Three YRC volunteers from our college were participated and Selvan S. Balamurugan of II B.Sc. Computer Science got III Prize in this contest.
Madurai District Youth Red Cross Organized Indian Red Cross Society TamilNadu Branch Sponsored A One Day District Level Study Camp for YRC Volunteers and Programme Officers held at our college campus on 31.1.2012. Twenty of our college YRC Volunteers were participated and rendering a wonderful service in the study camp.
Our college YRC Programme Officer and Madurai District Organizer of Youth Red Cross Assistant Prof. P.Pattinathar delivered a felicitation address in the Innaugural function of A State Level Seminar On Youth Empowerment for YRC Volunteers, Organized by Joint District Organizer Madurai Youth Red Cross and Youth Red Cross of Sourastra College Madurai on 10.02.2012.Our college YRC Volunteers D.Sathiyamoorthy of III B.A. History and T. Kubendrapandian of II B.Sc. Physics have also participated in this seminar.
Our College YRC Volunteers are dedicatively involved in the campus cleanliness Work and in Sports day & Jayanthi day functions this year.
