RRC - Red Ribbon Club

The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention program for students in educational institutions. It is initiated and supported by the State AIDS Control Society and implemented through multi-sectoral collaboration, particularly, using the services of cadre officers of the State's National Service Scheme (NSS).

 
Objectives
arrow blue To reduce new HIV infection among young people by raising their risk perception through the Life Skills Education programme and create awareness on Sex, Sexuality and HIV & AIDS.
arrow blue To induce among youth the spirit to help and support people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), thereby reducing stigma and discrimination against PLHAs.
arrow blue To motivate youth and build their capacity as peer educators and change agents by developing their skills on leadership, negotiation, and team building.
arrow blue To promote voluntary non-remunerated blood donation among youth.

2009 - 10

Our College Red Ribbon Club organized an Orientation Programme to the First Year Volunteers. Miss Uma, RRC District Manager spoke to the students on 23.07.2009. They celebrated AIDS Day on 1st December, 2009. Further the main HIV and Health Awareness Programmer was held on 23.02.2010. Mr A Palanichamy, RRC District Manager addressed the members. The members went to Govt. Hospital, Sholavandan to learn the functioning of ICDC and testing procedure. In the same day, Mr Ravi Kannan the PH counselor and Mr. Pon. Pandi HIV+ve person spoke to the members.

  

2010 - 11

The RRC of our college has 100 first year students and 20 second year students as educators on the roll. On 26.7.2010, the orientation programme was conduct. RRC programme officer Dr N Venkatasubbu spike wbout the common diseases and problems during the adolescent period RRC District Manager Mr A Palanichami addressed the students. A One day special camp on 29.01.2011 was conducted. Mr Ponpandi and Mr Mangaleswaran were the resource persons.

2011 - 12

Our college Red Ribbon Club with the strength of 100 volunteers and 20 per team leaders and two senior captains began its activities.

The orientation programme was held to the volunteers on 2nd August 2011. The programme officer Dr. N.Venkatasubbu spoke about the motto, objective and the purpose of RRC for two hours. The peer team leaders trained the students highlighting blood donation and HIV awareness.

The main programme “Celebrating Life” was held on 13th December 2011. The TANSACS and RRC district manager Mr. A.Palanisamy spoke to the students Mr.Ravikannan ICTC counselor P.H. Katchaikatti Mr. Ponpandi – member Vaigai HIV positive Network shared his experiences among the students. Blood donation campaign has to be conducted in March 2012.
